Discover the difference between the two types of downloadable CSV files on the platform.
To download the databases from our platform, you can do it in two formats:
-
CSV with comma-separated values: This format separates values using commas and is compatible with spreadsheet applications like Excel, Numbers, and Google Spreadsheets.
-
CSV with semicolon-separated values: This format separates values using semicolons and is primarily used for older versions of Excel for Windows.
Both formats contain the same content, but the encoding differs depending on the program and version used to open them.
In general, older versions of Excel for Windows may require the file to be separated by semicolons, while newer versions, along with Numbers for Apple and Google Spreadsheets, require comma separation.
To determine the appropriate format, it is best to download both types initially and check which one opens correctly. After that, you'll know which format to choose moving forward.
PRO TIP: If you open the .CSV file with Google Spreadsheets, you can convert it to .xlsx format by clicking on File >> Download >> Microsoft Excel. 👉 Check out this article to learn more.
